CONTRIBUTE TO AHEPA!

Philanthropy and volunteerism have been the pillars of strength for AHEPA.  From natural disaster relief to raising funds for the elimination of life-threatening diseases to making significant contributions to our local neighborhoods, AHEPA is at the forefront of charitable giving.

AHEPA's support of the restoration of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island; in the Halls of St. Basil Academy; in the care packages we sent to our troops in cooperation with the USO; and in the building of healthcare facilities in Greece are all indicative of the philanthropic aspect of the Order of AHEPA.  The millions of dollars in medical containers shipped during Greece’s recent financial trouble; the $300 million raised in US war bond sales during WWII; the $250,000 in food sent to Greece in 2012; the millions of dollars awarded annually to education and so much more have all been made possible by donations from our members and friends.   Even so, this only scratches the surface of the numerous philanthropic works of the association.  In addition to projects done on a national level, countless charitable projects are undertaken every year by the AHEPA's chapters and districts.

AHEPA Athletics

The athlete has a very special place in Greek history and culture and, with AHEPA, so it remains. AHEPA Athletics plays a significant role in our fraternity’s on going mission to promote excellence. A variety of athletic events are conducting across the AHEPA domain.  Golf Tournaments both on the local and national level are attended by thousands of members and guests. The annual Dr. Monthe Kofos Tournament brings golfers from all over the world to compete. Let’s not forget to mention our bowling leagues and championships, basketball, softball and many other athletic competitive events…even a TAVLI tournament now again!

The Order has always taken enormous pride in the achievements of the Greek American athlete, going back to the heyday of world class wrestler Jim Londos. AHEPA’s Harry Agganis Award was established in 1955, in memory of the great all-American who died in his prime. Agganis honorees have included: in football, Detroit Lion Alex Karras; in basketball, Boston Celtic Lou Tsiropoulos; and in baseball, Baltimore Oriole Milt Pappas, among recent recipients are Olympic diver Greg Louganis and University of Georgia football coach and All-American Mike Castronis.  AHEPA also recognizes outstanding professional and amateur women in athletics.

Annually the AHEPA Athletics Committee awards thousands of dollars in scholarships at the AHEPA Convention. Please click to donate: AHEPA Athletics

AHEPA Bone Marrow Registry

In 1990, members of the Coral Gables Chapter No. 490 were asked to donate a small test tube of blood to see if they would match the son of one of the members who was in need of a bone marrow transplant. It quickly became obvious that an even greater need existed and the AHEPA Bone Marrow Donor Registry was incorporated. The AHEPA Bone Marrow Donor Registry educates and recruits new potential bone marrow donors. It also coordinates the entire search process both nationally and internationally for patients in need of an unrelated donor. Please click to donate: AHEPA Bone Marrow

AHEPA Cooley's Anemia Foundation

Cooley's Anemia, also known as Thalassemia, is a fatal genetic blood disorder which affects people of Mediterranean descent. Today, in order to survive, children must receive blood transfusions every two weeks and receive painful drug injections via an infusion pump every night of their lives. For decades the AHEPA Cooley's Anemia Foundation has been working on a three-pronged attack to fight this fatal disorder. Funds have been raised to conduct screenings, to print and distribute educational materials and to support the research of leading hematologists and geneticists in the country. Please help us save these children! Please click to donate: AHEPA Cooley's Anemia Foundation

St. Nicholas & Shrine at WTC

The only House of Worship destroyed on September 11 was Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

The effort to rebuild Saint Nicholas was mired in bureaucracy. AHEPA's "Cut the Red Tape!" campaign proved effective in helping to budge the bureaucracy of the New York/New Jersey Port Authority to allow for the construction of Saint Nicholas at World Trade Center.

Now the time has come to build the Saint Nicholas National Shrine & Greek Orthodox Church at World Trade Center.  AHEPA and its affiliated organizations, the Daughters of Penelope, Sons of Pericles, and Maids of Athena, have launched a capital campaign with an ambitious goal of raising $1 million.  Help us meet our goal! Please click to donate: St. Nicholas & Shrine at WTC
